On January 23 1967 the 16th Aviation Group was formed in battle, thus it’s motto. It was activated in Vietnam from two battalions (the 212th and 14th) who were part of the 1st Aviation Brigade at that time. The 16th Group was located at Marble Mountain (Da Nang). The 16th CAG had about 3,300 personnel. Most of the companies in the group had been in Vietnam from the early years.  It consisted of two battalions, the 14th Combat Aviation Battalion, the 212th Combat Support Aviation Battalion.  Later in 1968, the 14th Battalion became part of the 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division, and the 212th Battalion then reported directly to 1st Aviation Brigade.  I Corps was the northern most part of South Vietnam, separated from North Vietnam by the DMZ. It consisted of terrain ranging from mountains, to plains to rice paddies. In addition to the 1st Aviation Brigade, the 101st Airborne and Marines also had aviation units there.
