The YO-3A crews were flying a still secret unarmed recon plane
capable of cruising nearly noiselessly at 800 feet at night on recon
missions. Initially deployed as part of
the U.S. Transportation Corps and attached to our 73rd recon
airplane company. By 1970 they were also
deployed in I Corps, flying the YO-3A. You can read more about the planes and
the crews at this website. www.quietaircraft.org

Meritorious Unit Commendation—1 Mar–19 Nov 68
http://home1.gte.net/claypirc/271st.html
The company arrived in
Vietnam February 1968 and served there until Sep 1971. The 271st was the first Chinook company to call the Mekong Delta home. Because the majority of the unit's
efforts involved the re-supply of combat forces, the call sign of "Innkeeper"
was chosen. The mission of the Innkeepers was to provide tactical and
logistical airlift for the movement of troops, equipment and supplies within
the IV Military Region, better known as the Delta.
