Text Box: Text Box: 308th Combat Aviation Battalion – Black Adlers (1966 - 1968) – Bien Hoa, III Corps, Camp Eagle - I Corps

In 1966 the 308th Aviation Battalion was assigned to our 12th Group in III Corps as a transition unit that supported the 101st Airborne Division thus the Eagle on its crest. It was put in place to get the 101st airmobile. On March 16, 1968 the 308th was attached to our 16th Group and the unit moved north to I Corps and became operational in support of the 101st Airborne Division. With it went the 17th AHC, 188th AHC, and 200th ASHC.  In July 1968, the 308th was deactivated. The 308th became the 159th Assault Support Helicopter Battalion, 101st Airborne Division and took over all CH-47 helicopter support of the 101st Airborne Division.  The transition was accomplished and the former 308th Battalion’s AHC units (17th and 188th) picked up new names as Companies B and C, 101st Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. They remained in Vietnam until 1972.   The former B Company, 101st Bn was redesignated the 163rd General Support Company and reassigned to the 160th Combat Aviation Group. The gunship platoons from the Commancheros A/101, Kingsmen B/101, and Black Widows C/101 were reassigned to the newly formed Delta Aerial Weapons Company known as Hawk.
